Career Skills Development

An important part of The EMBO Meeting is career development for scientists, particularly PhD and postdocs facing the decision whether to pursue a career in academia or elsewhere.

The Career Day offers a number of career development workshops for young scientists - PhD students and postdocs. The skills developed in these sessions are essential for successful academic or science-related careers. These sessions are uniquely developed for scientists by scientists; all the trainers have a research background and work extensively with researchers in the life sciences.  The workshops are complemented by a mentoring lunch session exploring non-academic career options, as well as other career development opportunities throughout the meeting.

Career development activities during the meeting include:

  • Pursuing an academic career lunch
  • Network with senior scientists at meet the speakers lunches and during the poster sessions
  • Network with your peers at the PhD meets postdoc party

"Attending the career development workshops at The EMBO Meeting was very useful to me as I’m now at a changing point in my career. Talking to the speakers and facilitators made me aware of the possibilities, including ones outside of academia, that are available to me."
