Job applications: understand the dos and don'ts

Session A3: Saturday, 10 September, 9:15 - 12:15 | focus on academic positions (€50)

Room 4.4 Johann Sebastian Bach

As you look for a suitable job you must stand out from the crowd of other well-qualified job-seekers to attract the attention of potential employers. During this workshop you will:

  • learn how to identify and present the specific skills you have acquired during  your thesis and/or post doc;
  • hear about the importance of tailoring your application to  different types of jobs;
  • learn how to write an attractive CV and engaging cover letter;
  • learn how to prepare for and present yourself convincingly in an interview;
  • and how networking can help you find out about potential careers,  as well as available jobs.

Although the focus will be different, the general principles presented are similar in the A3 and C3 sessions, we would therefore not recommend signing up to both.

100% of participants from the last course would recommend the workshop. Here are some of their comments:

  • interactive, very dynamic and lots of examples
  • really good format, as expected
  • clear, lively, motivating
  • very dynamic and nice speaker
